HAPPY CAMPING IN CORTLAND COUNTY

Pack those tents and bags of marshmallows, and head out to enjoy the great outdoors in beautiful Cortland County!

Cortland County campsites offer way more than the basics — tent camping, trailer camping, sites with or without electricity and water.  They also offer shower houses, laundry rooms and full hook-ups for your RV.  Many have an on-site convenience store and dining too. 

So pack up your gear and head to these five campgrounds for a few nights under the stars.

Cortland Country Music Park & Campgrounds, home of the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame, is tucked away on Rt. 13N in Cortland, just off Exit 11 of I-81.  A majority of the 107 campsites have water and electric hookups, and the grounds include three different bathroom and shower facilities and a dump station.

Guests can enjoy catch-and-release fishing in the picturesque pond, or the plenty of organized activities for all ages including a Fishing Derby, potluck dinners and pancake breakfasts (extra charge).  Spend some time at the NYS Country Music Hall of Fame, browsing the memorabilia from Nashville artists as well as NYS musicians, and don’t forget to check out the events calendar!  The Opry Barn hosts live bands and dancing every weekend throughout the summer.

Homer is only five minutes west, or a a quick 10-minute drive will take you to Historic Downtown Cortland where you can enjoy local shopping and dining. This is a pet-friendly campground.

Tucked away in the beautiful Finger Lakes and conveniently located between Binghamton and Syracuse, is Country Hills Campground. Both open and shaded sites are available for all types of tents and campers, complete with full hookups, picnic tables and fire pits.

Guests can spend the day enjoying a line-up of amenities including canoeing, catch-and-release fishing, and hiking on their local trails. If you don’t feel like cooking, hot breakfast is served every Saturday and Sunday morning, and travelers can dig into a home cooked meal every Friday evening.  This is a pet-friendly establishment.

Take advantage of the abundance of hiking opportunities on the Finger Lakes Trail, and then grab a bite at one of the eateries located in the quaint town of Marathon.

FOREST LAKE CAMPGROUND

Forest Lake Campground sits on 350 acres of rolling hills that creates an Adirondack-like atmosphere.  The spacious campsites offer electricity and water, and you can grill at the sites’ fire pits and enjoy an evening meal at the picnic tables. 

The eight-acre private lake offers boat rentals, and catch-and-release fishing, while the onsite Game Room can host a friendly game of ping pong.  For those with a sweet tooth, the campground also has an ice cream shop on site.    

If you’re looking to do some hiking, travel 15 minutes north to the Labrador Hollow Unique Area to view the 50-foot Tinker Falls and its impressive natural rock amphitheater.

YELLOW LANTERN KAMPGROUND

Just over two miles outside Historic Downtown Cortland, Yellow Lantern Kampground has campsites of all sizes to accommodate the smallest and largest RVs.  Choose a shaded or sun area with electric and water hookups, or take advantage of their full hookups.  There are restrooms with showers, along with laundry facilities open to guests.  Don’t forget to bring your kiddos!  Take a dip in the park’s pool during the summer months, let them loose at one of the two playgrounds, or enjoy an evening in the recreation hall complete with a fire pit.

And you’ll find plenty of history nearby, as the campground is less than 10 minutes from many historic sites, including the CNY Living History Center, the 1890 House Museum, and the Cortland Historical Society.  This is a pet-friendly campground.
