Live to hunt? Cortland County is best known for its upland types of wildlife. Grouse, woodcock, squirrels and cottontail rabbits are abundant. Cortland County also has one of the highest density of whitetail deer taken in New York State with 6 to 10 deer per square mile. The area also has some exceptional turkey hunting.
