Outdoor activities are a numbers game in Cortland County. There are over 30,000 acres of state forest land for hiking and mountain biking along with miles of scenic roadways for cycling. A side trip to Lime Hollow Nature Center will add another twelve miles to hiking trails to the list. The Otselic and Tioughnioga rivers will give paddlers some thrills. 

Finger Lakes Trail

Miles of the Finger Lakes Trail passes through Cortland County. This premier footpath for hikers stretches 560+ miles from the PA/NY border in Allegany State Park to the Long Path in the Catskill Forest Preserve, crossing beautiful and remote areas of the Finger Lakes Region and Southern Tier.

Tioughnioga River

The Tioughnioga River is a large deep pooled river that flows through Cortland and Broome counties. It begins in Cortland (Cortland County) where the East and West Branches combine, and then flows south for 34 miles until its confluence with the Chenango River (Broome County) at Chenango Forks.
