BROCKWAY TRUCKS RETURN TO THEIR HOMETOWN

Keep on trucking at the 20th Annual National Brockway Truck Weekend, August 8 – 11!

For four days, the town of Cortland will be filled with Huskies, but not the kind attached to a sled.  Truck buffs, regional history enthusiasts, and festival-goers come in hoards to the 20th Annual Brockway Truck Show, August 8 through 11, for the sights and sounds of the Brockway Motor Truck Co. legacy.  A majority of the show’s events will take place at the Central New York Living History Center, which is home to an impressive collection of Brockways, as well as select venues throughout Cortland County.

Founded in 1875 as the Brockway Carriage Works, the Brockway Motor Company operated in Cortland from 1912 to 1977 and manufactured custom heavy-duty trucks.  The trucks’ iconic hood ornament of a husky dog with a harness coined the nickname “Huskie Town, USA.”  The initial Brockway Truck Show was held in 2000 to celebrate the city’s bicentennial celebration, but the enthusiasm of Brockway fans and community turned it into an annual event.  Flash forward 20 years and the truck extravaganza has turned into a celebration of history with over 100 trucks making the treck to Cortland every year.

THURSDAY

The event kicks off Thursday, August 8th with a Brockway Ice Cream Cruise-In at the Super Cream Dairy Bar on Rt. 281 in Homer. Brockway owners and drivers cab grab a cone and socialize with other Brockway faithfuls.

FRIDAY

For those participating in the event, you’re invited to join in on the “Huskie Drive”.  The convoy will leave the CNY Living History Museum at 11 a.m., and take a short drive to Greek Peak Mountain Resort for a buffett luncheon and fun activities.  If you haven’t already made reservations, you can do so when you arrive at the museum on Friday morning (prior to 11 a.m.).

The evening will feature a wine, craft beer and cider tasting at the museum from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Once you’ve worked up an appetite, a reservations-only Italian fundraising dinner will follow at 6 p.m., coupled with a live auction.  All money raised during the fundraiser will go towards keeping the museum doors open and funding future events.  The day’s festivities will wrap up with a spectacular fireworks display behind the museum kicking off at 9:30 p.m.

SATURDAY

Cortland residents and visitors will swarm downtown as the popular Brockway Truck Parade will travel its way south on Route 11 to Main Street in Downtown Cortland starting at 8:30 a.m.  If you miss the parade, don’t worry!  The trucks will remain on display on Main Street until 3 p.m. so you’ll have the opportunity to browse the extensive collection.  There will also be other vendors and events taking place throughout the day before the awards ceremony in front of NBT Bank at 3:30 p.m.  Don’t forget to walk through the Brockway exhibit courtesy of the Cortland County Historical Society.

After the awards ceremony, those with reservations can attend the evening buffett at the Brockway Museum courtesy of Bob’s BBQ.  If you haven’t RSVP’d, call (607) 299-4185 to see if space is available.

SUNDAY

If you’ve stuck it out through the whole weekend, plan to attend the pancake breakfast (8 a.m.), followed by the 5th Annual South-Central NY Chapter ATCA Truck Show held at the museum complex from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  A reservation is not required for the breakfast and is a pay-at-the-door event.
