Join SUNY Cortland professor Scott Moranda to hear about the different uses of the land and resources of the Lime Hollow vicinity during two centuries of change. While the nature preserve today offers visitors thick forests and a quiet refuge, it was once a noisy industrial landscape in the age of water power. Later, farmers tried to wring every dollar they could out of the grasses, soils, and rocks. The talk will connect the particular stories of Lime Hollow farms and industries to the wider geographical and chronological context. The talk will also discuss the challenges of reconstructing the history of the land. Bring your own lunch and we will provide dessert and beverages. This event is free and open to the public.
