FRIgGwERK Consort (Alex Korolov, Tom Klenck, Kate Cushing and AlexanderRakov) will perform Medieval music by Johannes Ciconia, Francesco Landini, Gillaume Dufay, Gillaume de Machaut, Jacopo da Bologna and Gherardello da Firenze, on medieval fidels and oud.
In the second part - Splendid Renaissance Counterpoint by Pierre de la Rue, Josquin, Vincenzo Ruffo, Heinrich Izac, performed on viols.
Thought to be a predecessor of the modern string instrument concept, the flat bottom late medieval “vielle” (viola, fidel) derived from a strong technological development based on the assembling of several parts glued together. Rebec, preceding the fidel, as well as Lyra, were carved entirely from a single piece of wood.
