Cortland First Fridays joins an informal nationwide movement to celebrate the arts in local communities on the first Friday of each month. Participating galleries, studios, artists, interested businesses, music and performing arts venues will be open to the public from 5 pm to 8 pm to spotlight the arts.

Scavenger Hunt during First Fridays at the 1890 House Museum - Join the 1890 House Museum for one of their most popular First Friday activities. There are hidden modern day items throughout the museum, and its up to you to figure out what doesn’t belong. Put your sleuthing hat on for an event where the whole family can have fun.

Exhibit by Katrina Martin at the Cortland Free Library. Visit the gallery at the Cortland Free Library to view artwork by Katrina Martin and enjoy live music. The Cortland Camerata will be playing from 5:30 - 7 pm. Artwork will be on display for the month of September.

Pieces from the Permanent Collection at the Dowd Gallery- SUNY Cortland. The Dowd Gallery opens the 2019-20 academic year with an exhibition comprised of artworks from its permanent collection including paintings, prints, and sculptures. Selected Works: Pieces from the Permanent Collection exhibition will be on display from August 26 to October 4, 2019. On Friday, September 6 the gallery will be open extended hours from 5 - 8 pm.

Pick Your Painting night at the Instant Artist Paint•Sip•Studio Cortland. Choose any of the paintings (or do your own thing) from 6:00pm-8:30pm at the Instant Artist paint and sip studio in the historic Cortland Corset Building! Instructors will guide you step by step... no painting experience needed! Instant Artist offers many choices and the best part is they help you every step of the way if you need it - you are not left alone to figure it out. The hardest part will be deciding on which of their hundreds of designs you want to do. Everyone in your group can paint something different. Allow yourself a minimum of 2 hours to do your piece. Join artist Nathan Loda on the corner of 28 Main St, Cortland, to view his paintings in the former Mullen Office Outfitters storefront windows between 5-7 pm, Friday September 6. His paintings are part of the CNY Arts, “Art in the Window” program and he will be there talking about the history and inspiration behind the works on display.

Artwork by Jim Weiss at the YWCA Cortland. Jim Weiss will be exhibiting his photographs for the month of September. Retired science and math teacher Jim Weiss has received numerous awards for his local photography. With Hoxie Gorge State Forest as his neighbor, nature has become his main subject, but he also enjoys capturing and sharing moments of people and places in and around Cortland County.
