Join us for the John Elliot Benefit Concert, starting at 7pm at BRU 64. Donations will be accepted at the door with proceeds benefiting both the Cortland Main Street Music Series and going towards Suicide Prevention and Awareness in Cortland County. Kicking things off will be local artists Quona Hudson, and Chris Merkley. Following them will be folks from The Local Farmers Union and then The Unknown Woodsmen wrapping up the night! A transplant to the Cortland community some years back, John Elliott, was a friend to all he met. He always made an immediate impression with a big smile and a great big hug. You could always find John enjoying local music events and he was good friends with many of the artists in the local music scene, as he was a guitar and banjo player himself. In addition to music John was very into sustainability and recognized the importance of treating the Earth with respect and care. It was not uncommon to discover that, during a walk home, John had picked up every single piece of trash that he encountered along the way. He was always looking for ways to help people and the community and is greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. This event is about keeping John's core values alive in the community, and bringing friends together to promote positivity, environmental stewardship, and the local music scene in his name. He may not be around to take part in the action anymore, but this event is surely in line with the things he loved, and would have wished to accomplish.
