Join Professor Scott Moranda on a hiking tour of Lime Hollow and learn about the grassroots community effort which helped reforest Cortland's natural treasure. One hundred years ago, visitors to the Lime Hollow area would have encountered an open landscape of pastures, croplands, and low scrublands. The land was largely deforested in the nineteenth century to clear land for farming or to supply sawmills. However, even before the establishment of today’s nature center and its preservation efforts, local landowners have already begun to restore forests and wildlife habitats. This hike will introduce participants to grassroots nature conservation efforts organized by farmers, hunters, and foresters.

This event will be outside and information will be presented on a hike throughout various parts of Lime Hollow including trails with steep grades and muddy conditions. Please be prepared to hike for up to 2 hours.

$10 members & $15 non-members
This hike through history is co-sponsored by the Cortland County Historical Society
