What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs.
There are close to 40,000 children and adults living with cystic fibrosis in the United States (and an estimated 105,000 people have been diagnosed with CF across 94 countries).
In people with CF, mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene cause the CFTR protein to become dysfunctional. When the protein is not working correctly, it’s unable to help move chloride — a component of salt — to the cell surface. Without the chloride to attract water to the cell surface, the mucus in various organs becomes thick and sticky. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps germs, like bacteria, leading to infections, inflammation in, respiratory failure, and other complications; frequently leading to lung transplants.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation functions provide the resources needed to support research, CF warriors and their families through the adversities of this challenging disease. Because of this incredible foundation, the median survival of children born and diagnosed with CF in 2010 was projected to be 37, which has reached a milestone of a median age of 50 for children born in 2021.
We need to continue the fight until CF stands for Cure Found.

This year we will be enjoying our time with friends and family at Trax Bar and Grill at 3:00 PM, and will be having the band Darkwine join us! We would love to have all involved join us for the social.
