"Today we sing songs of anxiety, grief, hope, reassurance and determination, drawn from multiple genres: pop, folk and traditional music. I've encountered some of today's composers for the first time and am blown away by the depth of their work. Some are deeply personal searches for meaning, others are love songs, and still others are about singing and dancing in spite of it all.
As Frank Ticheli says so beautifully in the lyrics of the first song... 'music has been my refuge, music has been my light.' Truly how can we keep from singing?
