On Saturday, November 5 at 10 a.m, the Cortland County Historical Society and the Cortland Free Library present BEFORE WE WERE HERE, a program about the origins of the world according to Native American legends. Our special guest, Archaeology professorEllie McDowell-Loudan, will talk about indigenous traditions, and we’ll read books like Coyote Makes Man (Sage, Teckentrup), The First Strawberries (Bruchac, Vojtech), and an original Raven creation story. Then we’ll decorate raven pictures and use paper plates and yarn to weave our own designs.
CCHS’s TIME TRAVEL program features free monthly read-alouds and activities to engage young readers in a greater understanding and appreciation of local and American history.
TIME TRAVEL takes place the first Saturday of every month from 10-11 a.m. at the Cortland Free Library. The program is geared to ages 4-8 but all families are welcome. For more information, contact CCHS at (607) 756-6071. To sign up, call the library at (607) 753-1043. Registration is requested but walk-ins are always welcome.
