Presentation on women in the Homeville Museum’s Cortland County Hall of Fame.
Refreshments from recipes in women’s suffrage cookbooks and by Nellie Randall, area restaurant owner and WWII dining services chief for President Roosevelt’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Women in the Hall of Fame:
• Ameilia Jenks Bloomer (1818-1894): Women’s rights activist, newspaper owner & editor
• Lydia Hammon Strowbridge (1830-1904): Physician, women’s rights activist
• Alice Cately Ettling (1851-1924): Businesswoman, health care activist
• Bessie Mabel Seely (1881-1981): Attorney, first woman accepted to the NYS Bar
• Nellie Randall (1892-1983): Local restaurant owner, White House dining services
• Adelaide Fish Cumming (1905-1998): Radio/TV broadcaster, voice of Betty Crocker
• Zenta Krauklis (1912-2003): WWII Physician, Cortland school & family doctor
• Catherine Ann Bertini (1950-present): United Nations Food Program Director; US Department of Health & Human Services, US Department of Agriculture; Leader in international organization reform
Admission price includes the event, refreshments, and tours of all CNY Living History Center Museums: Homeville Museum, Brockway Museum, Tractors of Yesteryear, Antique Firehouse. $15 for adults; $12 for Seniors & AAA members; $7 for youth aged 6-18; Free for children 5 & under, museum members, & AD military
