The Cortland Regional Sports Council is dedicated to promoting Cortland County for sports related business, events, competition and education.

The Empire State Senior Games is an organized sports competition and leisure program for those age 50 and older.

The JM McDonald Sports Complex was established in Sept 2004 as a non-profit organization providing sport and recreational services to Central NY youth and families. The complex hosts athletic programs, family events, leagues, clinics, public skating and much more.

The Cortland Red Dragons are composed of 23 teams representing SUNY Cortland in intercollegiate athletics. The Red Dragons compete in the NCAA Division III and are members of the State University of New York Athletic Conference for most sports, except for the football team, which competes in the Empire 8 Athletic Conference.
