Finding love in the late Victorian Era.

Did you know that many of our modern views on love and marriage began to change in the later Victorian Era? We will explore how the Wickwire sons would have found love at the cusp of a new century. While we can be certain that neither Charles or Fredric swiped right for their future brides there were plenty of societal expectations that dictated how young adults met and fell in love. This weekend we will explore the shift from marrying for family connection, social and economic to the ideal of companionate marriage. This shift allowed for love, emotional fulfillment and mutual affection. Even with the shift in marital ideals there remained strict expectations around courting.
With shows like Bridgerton and the Gilded Age there seems to be a continued nostalgia around old fashion practices including symbolism(hearts, doves, cherubs), flirtation including fan language, flower language, courtship and marriage. So join us for our special tour and see what the Victorians got right in regards to love and marriage, what traditions have carried over from this time period and what has changed.
