Sig Sautelle Circus Parade in Homer
Homer Historian Martin Sweeney will discuss two of Homer’s more prominent businessmen of the 19th and early 20th century. Both William Brockway and Sig Sautelle focused on the need for transportation and can lay claim to activities occurring at the former Crozier’s Gun Shop on South Main Street in Homer. Today the building has become known as the “Unroom,” and has been boarded up in recent years with an unknown fate awaiting it. It and the nearby "Circus House" built by Sautelle are examples of historic architecture needing to be preserved.

After close to forty years in a classroom bringing the past to life for students of United States history, Martin A. Sweeney, now retired, enjoys serving as the historian for the historic Town and Village of Homer, NY. He is interested in researching and writing about the lives and values of past people, especially those at the intersection of local and national history. He is a relentless promoter of local history and has published five books pertaining to local history, including one work of fiction.

Bring your own lunch if you wish, and we will provide a beverage and dessert. Admission is free for members of the Cortland County Historical Society (CCHS) and $5 for CCHS members-to-be.
This event will take place at the former Free Methodist Church at 9 Grace Street, Cortland.
