All Aboard at the CNY Living History Center

Did you know that there is a wonderful, interactive and immersive exhibition of an impressive train collection left to the Homeville Museum (located at the CNY Living History Center) by Ken Eaton.

 

When volunteer Doug Deer became involved just over a year ago, his passion for model trains helped to make the incredible collection left by Ken a focal point for the Homeville Museum at the CNY Living History Center. Expanded and developed to have multiple working parts, the model train display has grown to become a family favorite. It’s interactive, so kids of all ages can see the train town come to life from different lights, children swinging on the tiny playground, or hear the circus horn which is loud enough to be heard from the Brockway Museum on the other side of the building. According to Executive Director Luke Biondi, Doug, a life-long resident of Homer, NY, has multiple trains set up throughout his house and into his backyard and has been involved with the train display since last year’s train day. He has devoted countless hours to improving and expanding the display to what you see today. What does he have in mind for the future? There are another 300 to 400 train engines, buildings, and sections of tracks within the collection waiting so the possibilities are endless.  

 

Take the whole family to visit this unique and fun train display during the Holiday Train Day on Saturday, December 9 from 10 to 3. Meet the mastermind behind the train display Doug Deer himself as he will be featured as the master conductor.
