As soon as I set foot in the door I feel as though I've been transported back to northern California. Familiar sites and smells overtake me; scented candles and hand blended teas, bright textiles and vibrant paintings. Artisan Elements has truly captured the art collective experience. As I walk the aisles, I marvel at the eclectic selection. The shelves are home to all sorts of lovely trinkets; wood carvings, felted animals, and glittering jewelry all share space with tinctures, oils, and salves. I find myself running my hand over the delicate crocheted scarves and unimaginably soft silk screened t-shirts.
At the door is Chelsea Horak, a resident artist whose wood work is both imaginative and useful. She greets me warmly, explaining that most days the space is looked after by volunteer artists, whose work is housed there. The shop is host to more that 60 artists, crafters and practitioners. Beyond the beautiful work adorning the walls and shelves, Artisan Elements also provide space for massage therapists, healing practitioners and wellness facilitators. They also regularly offer classes in painting, meditation, and energy management.
Each piece in Artisan Elements is handmade and original. Though the collection of artists is regularly rotating, they all offer custom orders upon request. I find myself lingering near the carefully knotted macramé and make a mental note to come back over the weekend for a few gifts. Just before slipping out the door, a display of fresh baked doggie cookies infused with CBD catches my eye and I quickly grab one. Penitence for leaving my pup behind, he approves and gladly gobbles it up.
If you, too, would like to find yourself transported, Artistan Elements can be found on 6 N. West Street, Homer. Doors are open noon to 6pm, Wednesday-Friday and 10am to 4 pm, Saturday and Sunday.
