There’s a “bomb cyclone” in the forecast and if you are already not a huge fan of winter this doesn’t help. But before you retreat to your couch and re-watch that Netflix series (again) try staying warm and avoid cabin fever with these winter activities.
Get cozy at BRU 64. Whether you fancy a coffee or one of their many rotating beers, you can admire the whirls of winter from a comfy leather chair at BRU 64. Share some pretzel sticks or their hot chicken wing dip with friends while listening to live music. Winter is a wonderland from inside BRU 64.
Rock out at Center for the Arts. You’ll shed your winter coats as soon as you enter the box office at Center for the Arts of Homer. Just named one of the best places to catch a show in 2018 by Syracuse.com in Central New York, the Center has a unique history as a former church, but you won’t hear church bells anymore. Check out The Verve Pipe on January 11 or the Ghost of Paul Revere on January 27.
Après Ski. Cortland County has some pretty amazing local ski areas, but if you’re not ready to take to the slopes, you should still check them out for the food.
The Last Run at Labrador Mountain not only has a great lineup of music every Saturday in January, but the Last Run Restaurant has delicious grub from their slow braised pork chili to their classic ½ pound burger served with crispy kettle chips.
Trax Pub & Grill at Greek Peak Mountain Resort is a great spot to warm up either by the massive roaring fire or at the bar. Dine mountainside and admire the snow-covered slopes from the floor to ceiling windows while eating one of their wood-fired pizzas. Save room for dessert with their s’mores flatbread.
The Foggy Goggle at Toggenburg Mountain has earned a reputation for fine food. Try Jimbo’s Beer Breath Chili (a two-year winner of Cazenovia’s chili cook off) or a charbroiled turkey burger.
Let history warm you up. Wander through the CNY Living History Center. Explore this three-museum complex with the whole family at the Homeville Museum, Brockway Truck Museum, and the Tractors of Yesteryear. You can easily spend a couple of hours here with highlights including an interactive model train exhibit, a life size replica of a World War One trench, enormous Brockway Trucks, and an impressive collection of farm tools from years gone by.
Grab a day pass at Cascades Indoor Water Park. Enjoy winter splash days with more than 150,000 gallons of water, over 500 feet of water slides and indoor and outdoor hot tubs. Try the heated outdoor pool if you’re feeling brave!
Warm up with a wine or whiskey tasting! From Finger Lakes wine at the Finger Lakes Tasting Room, to local brews with a beer flight or sampling the new gin or vodka from Cortland Beer Company. Sample dragon moonshine at Dragonfyre Distillery, these local spots will warm you up! If you visit Dragonfyre, tell Sir Leaks Alot hello from us….
