January is national soup month, and what better way to fight off the cold, dreary days than with a steaming bowl of soup?!  Here in Cortland County, local establishments are serving up everything from the classics to the unique.

Below is a list of some of our favorites, perfect to fuel your next adventure.

Yori House

Move over chicken noodle, there's a new soup in town. Yori Houses' Ramen is everything canned chicken noodles wishes it was.  Try it with a hand-breaded crispy chicken katsu, bulgogi, miso or classic chicken topped with an egg over a warm, savory ramen bowl with cilantro and bean sprouts will leave you slurping up every last drop.

M & D Deli

This Cortland staple has been warming bellies (and winning loyalties) for more than 20 years, thanks to a chili recipe locals swear by. M&D Deli's take on white chili might just be the overachiever of the lineup. It's rich, cozy, and stick-to-your-ribs good. Make it a meal by pairing a bowl with a fresh grab-and-go salad or a made-to-order deli sandwich, and suddenly lunch plans feel very, very handled.

Pita Gourmet

Tired taste buds looking for a little kick? Try Pita Gourmet's trademark lentil soup.  Crafted using traditional Lebanese spices, this soup is full of flavor, warming you from the inside out. Combine it with falafel and fresh humus for the perfect meal. Insider tip: if you like to dip, their fries make a surprisingly delicious vessel for sopping up the last of the soup.

Dasher's Corner Pub

Made from scratch with whole clams, heavy cream, and whipped potatoes, Dasher's signature clam chowder rivals any on the coast.  Near decadent, served with their fresh baked bread, this soup just might become your new favorite. Bonus, this soup is delightfully gluten free as it is thickened with potatoes instead of wheat.

Wild Ginger Asian Fusian

If you haven't tried Wild Ginger's Hot & Sour Soup, you don't know what you're missing.  The seemingly simple egg drop broth explodes with bright ginger, nutty sesame, and the deep umami of mushrooms. Slightly tart, with a kick at the end, a bowl of this promises to chase away the winter blues.

The Exchange

The Exchange’s African Peanut Stew is truly a soup-for-everyone situation. It’s bold, cozy, and full of flavor, and surprisingly it’s both gluten-free and vegan! Think sweet potatoes, chickpeas, kale, veggie broth, and peanuts all hanging out in one seriously satisfying bowl. It's a fresh new take on a classic comfort food.

Hairy Tony's

Hairy Tony's French onion soup is pure late-night comfort. Decadent, deeply savory, and buried under a blanket of melty, cheesy goodness, it’s exactly what you want when the cravings hit after hours. Open late and always satisfying. And hey, fun fact, cheese has been linked to better sleep… so really, this soup is just a oh-so-ow-wee-goo-wee bowl of self-care.

Carver's Steak House

Looking to treat yourself?  Then you've come to the right place! Carver's creamy lobster bisque, topped with crème fraiche is the perfect way to celebrate.  Even if your only victory for the day is putting on clothes and leaving the house.  Enjoy it with a glass of champagne because you deserve it; sometimes, adulting is hard.

Prandium

Prandium has elevated a classic to a whole new level. Their house-made tomato basil soup with bursting with vibrant flavors of robust tomatoes and fresh basil.  Served with their buttery, crisp fresh baked croutons you'll never go back to soup from a can again. And don't worry all you purists, Prandium is happy to pair it with a grilled cheese for your dunking pleasure.

Soups On

No matter how you like your soup, creamy or brothy, spicy or soothing, served with a hunk of bread or slurped straight from the bowl, Cortland County has a spoon-worthy option with your name on it. From cozy classics to bold, craveable bowls, there’s always a reason to warm up around here. For a full list of Cortland County eateries, click here and start planning your next delicious detour.
