Fun Things To Do at the Cortland County Jr. Fair
Barns, cows, carnival rides, and deep-fried fun are expected at this year's local junior fair!
Locals and visitors alike will be able to enjoy the tastes, smells, and thrills that come with the county fair as the 2024 edition of the Cortland County Jr. Fair begins its five-day run Tuesday, July 9, at the Cortland County Fairgrounds. The fair is hosting a slate of livestock shows, pageant queens, and agricultural exhibits. Here are just a few reasons why you should find the time to take the whole family to the Cortland County Jr. Fair!
MORE THAN FUZZY FACES
Cortland County Jr. is full of so much more than cute and playful farm animals (though we admit they are our favorite). This year's fair is full of talent on display, from animal costume contests to race cars made of veggies! Here are just a few of the clever festivities highlighted below.
- July 9th: Fair Queen Contest
- July 10th: Animal Costume Contest, Veggie Car Race, and Barn Yard Olympics
- July 11th: Flower Show and Antique Tractors
- July 12th: Sydney Irving & the Mojo Band
- July 13th: Tractor Pulls, Open Horse Show
Looking to get your cute and fuzzy fix? The fair also treats attendees to farm animal-related experiences and traditional livestock auctions. Watch cows being milked and learn about the county’s dairy industry, and don’t forget to stop by the Ag. Corp. Building on Friday and Saturday for the opportunity to learn about calf births!
FAMILY FUNIt's the attraction all of the kids have been waiting for — Carnival rides — will be open 5-10 pm Wednesday – Friday and open at 1 pm on Saturday. Pay one Price unlimited ride bracelets are available every day, with Saturday having two separate bracelet sessions from 1-5 pm and 6 pm-close.
FAIR FARE
Food is always a big hit come fair time, and we’re already preparing our bellies for a large helping of a fried or otherwise indulgent snack. From baked potatoes with all the trimmings to chicken BBQ to hot dogs and funnel cake orders at the midway concessions, fair-goers will have plenty of choices to satisfy their hunger. Don’t forget to stop by the Ag Tent to get your hands on some dairy delights during Dairy Day.
LIVE ENTERTAINMENTFriday night is full of dancing with Sydney Irving & the Mojo Band. Saturday, Achoo the Camel will be holding court and expecting snuggles and admiration from all his fans. While you're there, stop by and see Crossroads the Clown!
The fair comes to a close with the annual bicycle drawing, and fireworks display at dusk!
