School is officially out which means summer is upon us - and so is vacation season! Cortland County offers locals and those beyond so many events for families, kids, and outdoor enthusiasts that it can be hard to know where to start. We'll be showcasing county happenings each month to keep you up-to-date and in the know - check out these exciting events happening this July that you don't want to miss out on.

GREEK PEAK FIREWORKS

July 5 (at dusk)
Hope Lake Park

Join ;Greek Peak Mountain Resort at Hope Lake Park on July 5 an evening filled with fireworks, live music, mouthwatering food, and endless fun! Enjoy boating, fishing, and swimming on the lake. Don't forget to bring blankets and lawn chairs to relax and enjoy the fabulous fireworks display at dusk.

CORTLAND COUNTY INDEPENDENCE DAY SPECTACULAR
July 6 (2-10 pm)
Dwyer Memorial Park
6799 Little York Lake Rd, Preble 

Celebrate freedom and family all day long on July 6 at Cortland County’s Annual Fireworks event! Included in this year’s event will feature live local music. Bring your appetite; several local food vendors will be on hand throughout the afternoon as well as a cash bar. Center for the Arts is providing a day filled with live music on the outdoor stage!

The annual fireworks show kicks off at dusk and will be bigger, better and longer this year! Don’t forget to turn your radio to x101 Always Classic for the annual sky concert during the show.

There is a $5 charge per vehicle to enter the park for the day. In the event of rain, the show will be on July 7.

HOMER SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
Wednesdays through August (7pm)

The Village of Homer has announced this year’s series of free summer concerts to be held Wednesday nights at 7pm, at the beautiful Village Green. Bring a cooler and a chair for a fantastic evening filled with free music and fun.

CORTLAND COUNTY JUNIOR FAIR
July 9-13

On July 9, the 69th Cortland County Junior Fair kicks off and runs to July 13. Over the course of the week, fairgoers can see and participate in a number of events, including livestock shows, agricultural exhibits, veggie car races, the pie social, animal costume contests, and much more. On July 13, the fair ends with a bang, with fireworks at dusk. As always, there's no admission for the annual event, making it the perfect family outing. 

CORTLAND YOUTH BUREAU SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

Thursdays just got a whole lot better, thanks to the summer concert series in Courthouse Park! Bring the kids, your lawn chairs, and a picnic basket for an evening filled with live music under the setting sun, starting at 7pm.

RED OAK MUSIC SERIES
June 13 (noon-6pm)
Lime Hollow Nature Center

The Lime Hollow Nature Center and the Center for the Arts of Homer have partnered together to present the Red Oak Music & Art Fest - an outdoor, family-friendly, music series. Enjoy Live performances at two professionally equipped stages, featuring Second Spring, Elderly Brothers, Leo & The Mayday's, Harmonic Dirt and People People

In between sets, wander the vendor trail filled with all sorts of handmade goods, one-of-a-kind items, and sweet treats, all immersed in nature. Refreshments, field games, and other activities will take place during the event, and hiking, picnicking, and exploring are encouraged. Admission is free (donations will be accepted to support programs at Lime Hollow and the Center for the Arts). Performances and outdoor activities will take place at Lime Hollow’s beautiful education campus at 3277 Gracie Road.

HOLIDAY IN HOMER

The annual Arts and Crafts Festival sponsored by the Homer Congregational Church is back for it's 43 year! Make your way to the Homer Village Green for a full day of music, local shopping, and delicious food. Browse the over 125 artisans and crafters while listening to live music. Come hungry because a wide variety of eats will be available, including hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, and so much more.

Center for the Arts of Homer

Portrait of a Place is the first annual Plein Air Competition at the Center for the Arts of Homer. July 20, artist will flood downtown Homer in attempts to artfully capture the open area market, historic Main Street, and the tranquil river that runs along it.

At 4pm the artist will return to the Center for the Art to submit their work and enjoy a cocktail hour before the Featured Artist presentation, reception, public sale, and awards ceremony take place from 6-8pm. For artist participation sign up click here.

ROUTE 90 SALE

July 29-30 (9am-5pm)
Route 90, Homer NY
 
The annual 50-mile Route 90 Garage Sale takes on a festival atmosphere each year as friends, family members and the occasional family dog go searching for surprises. Stretching along the roadside of Route 90 – a Scenic New York State Byway the sale runs from Montezuma in the north to the Village of Homer at the southern end. Along the way, you will find everything imaginable, from antique andirons to zebra prints and loads of other unexpected delights! Always the last full weekend in July, the sale this year is July 29-30 (though many start as early as Friday). The official hours for the sale are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, rain or shine. The Route 90 Garage Sale starts/ends in the Village of Homer, NY. Be sure to drive all over Homer, as the entire village seems to rally for this annual event!
