Bean Pickers: American Immigrant Portraits

Event has ended
Central New York Living History Center
4386 US Rte. 11
Cortland, NY 13045

Through her narrative and original photos, author Karen Foresti Hempson reveals the family life & struggles experienced by Cortland’s Italian-American migrant workers who labored in area bean fields. From the early 20th century through the Depression and WWII, they worked hard during the summer to help their families escape poverty and build their lives in our community.

Some of Cortland’s senior residents who were bean pickers will participate in the discussion to share their experiences.

Refreshments after presentation.
