Celebration of the 140th Anniversary of the Greely Rescue

Do you know who David Brainard is?  The Marathon Historical Society invites you to learn about this courageous man and his important part in The Greely Expedition (1881-1884). A special program will be presented in the Marathon High School Auditorium on Wednesday, July 31 at 7 p.m.  Everyone is invited! You do not need to be a member of the Historical Society to attend.  Come and learn about this man who lived in the Town of Freetown.  It was his grit and wisdom that helped some of the explorers survive.  He became a Brigadier General, wrote two books, and is buried in Arlington Cemetery.
