This year’s Community Arts Challenge theme is CHANGE. Consistent with the theme, we are changing the date of our public celebration and awards ceremony.
Originally scheduled as a “Grand Opening” celebration on January 28, 2022, our annual public event will now take place on the evening of Thursday, February 17. This year’s event will be heralded as the Arts Challenge’s “Grand Closing” celebration.
On February 17, our celebration will begin at 6:15 PM with refreshments in the Center’s community room and a slide show in the Center’s theater. Performances of our dance and music entries and readings of our poetry entries will begin at 7:00 PM followed by the awarding of prizes in all categories, including our People’s Choice award.
In accordance with Covid protocols, masks will be required throughout the evening, except for those eating in the community room. There will be adequate space in the theater for people to spread out.
We will film as much of this ceremony as possible and will post it online during the week of February 21.
Opening of the Exhibit Remains the Same
The public is invited to view Opening of the Community Arts Challenge exhibit, at the Homer Center for the Arts in the Center’s gallery on Friday, January 28 between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Visitors are also invited to visit Center’s gallery on Tuesdays thru Fridays between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM during the weeks of February 1, February 8, and February 15. Appointments to visit on evenings or weekends can be made by calling the Center at 607-749-4900.
We encourage everyone to visit the gallery before February 17, as many artists will take home their entries after our closing celebration. When you do visit, please be sure to cast your vote for the People’s Choice Visual Art award.
For those who are unable to come to the Center, our exhibit will be posted online. You will be able to vote for the People’s Choice award on our website at CortlandArtsChallenge.org.
