Homer Fire Department 150th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday, July 22nd
8:30 AM: Opening Ceremony of the Central NY Firefighters Association Convention (CNYFA) at the CNY Living History Center (open to public)

9:15 AM: CNYFA Awards Ceremony at the CNY Living History Center (open to public)

11:00 Homer Fire Dept Doors open to feature a museum at the HFD of pics/gear. Open throughout the day

12:00 PM: HFD 150th Anniversary Ceremony, to be held on the VIllage Green in Homer. Featuring guest dignitary speakers (currently, Sen. Lea Webb, Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan, Homer Mayor McCabe, among several others) and history of HFD by Emcee Martin Sweeney (Village and Town of Homer Historian). Open to public

approx. 1:30 PM: Historical Fire Apparatus display. Attendees on Village Green will be able to see antique apparatus in action before they stage for display.

2:30 PM: CNYFA Hose Racing Competition (open to public to observe these classic Firemen games) on Main st. in Homer

also at 2:30 PM: Children's games and activities (on Homer VIllage Green) including CIty of Cortland Fire Department Smoke House, "Midnight Drills" (children pretend to sleep and get a call, run to put on firefighter gear, etc.), rides in the ladder truck bucket, spray a fire hose, and bucket brigade relay race.. Face painters will also be on the Green!

5:00 PM: Grand CNYFA Finale Parade through the Village of Homer featuring the HFD and apparatus from the attending departments (CNYFA encompasses several counties of central NY).
