For the Solo Adventurer

Share

For those looking to explore at their own pace and embrace nature all by themselves. Bonus: you don’t have to share your plate of French fries.

Where to Stay

Escape to The Guest House for a dose of rustic charm and countryside allure. Fuel up on local goodies at the attached cafe and country store, The Truxton Outpost (ask about their s'mores kit). Surrounded by rolling hills, state forest views and nearby snowmobile trails, it's a haven for outdoor lovers or those looking for a quiet retreat.

Day 1

A.M. Kayak down the Tioughnioga River, where you’ll be treated to scenic views of the surrounding landscape and vegetation. The river provides a winding and narrow adventure traveling from the town of Cortland to Marathon.

Noon You're traveling solo, so no one's here to judge--eat all the fudge! At Sinfully Sweet Cafe, indulge in chocolates, cupcakes and fresh-baked treats that are totally worth the sugar rush.

P.M. Feed your inner creative with a class at Pottery Works Cortland. Learn the basics of hand-building while creating pottery pieces you will remember for years to come. Who knows, maybe you'll pick up a new hobby.

Day 2

A.M. Refresh and rejuvenate with a leisurely walk through Labrador Hollow Unique Area to Tinker Falls, a beautiful 50-foot waterfall surrounded by an impressive natural rock amphitheater. Looking to break a little sweat? Continue up the North Country Trail to reach the Jones Hill Vista.

Noon Chic design meets warm hospitality at Prandium Cafe & Eatery. The sounds of mellow music and a hissing espresso machine pair perfectly with a good book and one of their fluffy Belgian waffles.

P.M. Get lost (in the best way) at M Guardens on James, where macrame, plants and quirky gifts await. Take a class and grab a pot-because your plants deserve stylish digs too!

Day 3

A.M. Start your morning with a refreshing yoga session at Heart Centered Yoga, stretching and centering yourself for the day. On your way out, grab a protein shake from Lift a Latte-because balance, right?

Noon Don your robe and prepare for some serious spa-time bliss. With an impressive array of treatments and serene setting, you’ll unwind in no time at the Waterfalls Spa at Greek Peak Mountain Resort. We recommend the Garden of Eden Spa Package where you’ll be treated not only to a body scrub, mud wrap and aromatic massage, but also a relaxing bath and some quiet time in your own private garden.

P.M. For a restaurant with a view, opt for Heuga’s Alpine Restaurant & Bar located at the base of Song Mountain Resort. Indulge in their robust flavors, including the Beef Burgundy or Ratatouille Stack, in a cozy atmosphere. If the weather allows, take your cocktail to the patio fire pit overlooking the downhill trails.
