January is national soup month and what better way to fight off the cold, dreary days than with a steaming bowl of soup?! Here in Cortland County, local establishments are serving up everything from the classics to the unique.
Below is a list of some of our favorites, perfect to fuel your next adventure.
YORI HOUSE - Come try a unique twist on a winter classic. Their chicken noodle soup is actually a noodle bowl! A delicious chicken broth with noodles, chicken, kale, and carrots, it's sure to warm you up on a blustery day. Plus, who doesn't love slurping their noodles with chopsticks?
THE DELI DOWNTOWN - This spot is a Cortland staple, serving their famous chili for nearly 20 years. Enjoy their award-winning chili two ways - white chicken chili or traditional red chili, topped with sour cream and cheese. Can't decide? Order a 'Soup Flight' which includes French onion, the chili of your choice and the soup of the day!
PITA GOURMET - Tired taste buds looking for a little kick? Try Pita Gourmet's trademark lentil soup. Crafted using traditional Lebanese spices, this soup is full of flavor, warming you from the inside out. Combine it with a salad and fresh pita for the perfect meal.
DASHER'S CORNER PUB - Made from scratch, with whole clams, heavy cream, and whipped potatoes, Dasher's signature clam chowder rivals any on the coast. Near decadent, served with their fresh baked bread, this soup just might become your new favorite.
THREE BEAR INN - This inn has been serving intrepid travelers for more than 100 years. Their hearty, and heart-healthy, homemade bean soup is a customer favorite. This simple soup is both nourishing and delicious, invoking a sense of nostalgia with every bite.
TRUXTON OUTPOST - If you find yourself out in Truxton, be sure to stop by the Outpost for a special treat, soup in a bread bowl! They change their soup offerings daily, so you never know just what delight you'll find. But, I assure you, whatever their creation, it's best enjoyed in a bread bowl with a steaming mug of coffee on the side.
ANDERSON'S FARM MARKET - Searching for a little lunch on the fly? Swing into Anderson's for a fantastic selection of homemade soup and sandwiches. The offerings change daily, and includes unique favorites such as Swedish Meatball soup or tried and true classics, including broccoli and cheddar, or Italian wedding. It's the perfect way to warm up when you've been out playing in the cold.
CARVERS STEAKHOUSE - Looking to treat yourself? Then you've come to the right place! Carvers creamy lobster bisque, topped with crème fraiche is the perfect way to celebrate. Even if your only victory for the day is putting on clothes and leaving the house. Enjoy it with a glass of champagne, because you deserve it, sometimes adulting is hard.
HEUGA'S ALPINE RESTAURANT & BAR - Caramelized onions, Swiss, Gouda, and buttery croutons, make this French Onion a real crowd pleaser. The best part, this soup is served with incredible views. Located at the foot of Song Mountain, Heuga's panoramic windows ensure there is not a bad seat in the house. We recommend calling ahead, as seating fills quickly.
