FLOWERS FOR LUCK
Whether you are Irish or just celebrating for the day, decorating with flowers is the perfect way to get in the mood and celebrate the upcoming Spring season. Luckily, Cortland County has several florists that can help you pick out the perfect blooms.
The most popular St. Patrick's Day flowers and plants? White (or green) roses, gold blooms and fresh green plants or arrangements.
EAT CORNED BEEF & CABBAGE
You haven't celebrated like the Irish if you don't devour a plate of corned beef and cabbage is hearty and delicious. Along with this classic dish of Ireland, The Community Restaurant will be offering other tasty menu items like Rueben and shepherd's pie (RSVPs required). Hairy Tony's, Gorgers Cortland and Central City Bar & Grill will also be serving up authentic eats.
If you're near Marathon, stop by Reilly's Cafe is a must-stop on your Irish culinary tour. They will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day all day with Irish specials and their delicious corned beef and cabbage dinner.
IRISH TREATS WITH A TWIST
You have to lay the base for a festive day of fun so don't skip out on an Irish-inspired breakfast. Stop by New York Bagel Café & Deli for a freshly baked bagel with a schmear of green cream cheese. You can also find some luck at the bottom of a Coffee Mania cup o' joe. Try their Drunken Leprechaun Lattes – an Irish Cream and butter Rum combined with shots of espresso and milk. Not a coffee drinker? We recommend Trinity Valley Dairy's Mint Chocolate Milk - it is available at select local retailers including Anderson's Farm Market, The Local Food Market & Cafe, Cortland Price Chopper Supermarkets and P&C Fresh in Cortland.
When the midday munchies have taken over after a few green beers, hop over to BRIX Pubaria, your one-stop-shop or all things Irish. Their St. Patrick’s Day menu puts a modern twist on Irish favorites, highlighted by the Rueben Egg-Rolls, Reuben Pizza and the Rueben Hand-Held stacked between Marple Rye. Foxy's will have Pastrami Reubens with potatoes for pre-order only (call (607) 543-4012 by March 15).
DO A JIG
Hop over to Homer Hops Brewing for your beverage of choice while enjoying an evening of music by Rocco Rich feat. Aaron Craig starting at 5 p.m. Cortland Beer Company will also be slinging beers starting a 2 p.m. with The X'Plozionz providing tunes in the evening.
