Family-fun entertainment is expected to take over Cortland County this weekend!
Panicking because you don’t know what to do this weekend? Don’t worry — below, find two annual events that perfectly bookmark the mid point of summer!
38TH HOLIDAY IN HOMER
July 20th from 9am - 4pm
Homer Village Green
Holiday in Homer, one of the oldest arts and crafts festivals in Cortland County, is just another exciting reason to experience a summer getaway in our county. Visitors can shop for one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items and enjoy a variety of festive activities.
Festival exhibitors will showcase handmade items on the Village Green including woodwork, candles, photography, pottery and ceramics, jewelry, soaps, and so much more starting at 9 a.m. Visit the Homer Congressional Church Sanctuary to see the collection of beautiful quilts created by the local community, and vote for “Viewers Choice”. Don’t forget to stop by the town’s charming and unique shops - Bev & Co., and Homer Men & Boys to name a couple - as they will also be open for business.
Make sure the kids tag along as they’ll have the opportunity to enjoy shows from Doug the Bubble Man (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.) and Dan the Snake Man (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.). There will also be horse-drawn wagon rides until 4 p.m., sponsored by Tom Crane Stables. Pull up a lawn chair to enjoy the sounds of the Crown City Brass at 10 a.m., followed by The Developments at 11:30 a.m.
Bring your appetites as you savor mouth-watering dishes from a variety of vendors. Visit the Homer Elks tent for hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, and salt potatoes, or get a plate full of chicken BBQ courtesy of the Homer Fireman Dpt. The Byrne Dairy Ice Cream and Strawberry Festival will offer strawberry shortcakes, strawberry sundaes and the many flavors of Byrne Dairy Ice Cream. Looking for a sit-down option? Grab a gourmet grilled cheese and a pint of beer from Dasher’s Pub & Grill. Or if your sweet tooth needs satisfying, stop by Three Little Birds Cakery or Sinfully Sweet Café for fresh baked goods or hand-dipped chocolates. They also offer delicious soups, salads, and sandwiches.
10TH ANNUAL CORTLAND AIRFEST
July 20th from 8am - 4pm
Cortland County Airport
The 10th Annual Cortland Airfest roars through the skies over Cortland County Airport this weekend! The one-day event held Saturday, July 20th includes aerial rides, aircraft displays, live music, and delicious food.
This weekend’s lineup promises to keep guests entertained. There will be educational experiences throughout the day, including a Wings Seminar at 10 a.m. with pilot, Mr. David St. George. Learn about the military career of Cortland native, General Levi Chase Display, and talk with The Ninety-Nines, an international organization of licensed women pilots from 44 countries.
If you need a bit of air, take flight in a Warbird, airplanes, and helicopters (extra charge). Don’t miss out on the opportunity to fly on the WWII C-47 “Whiskey 7”. According to the event website, this aircraft transported paratroopers to Normandy on D-Day. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20.
